The Parable of the Hikers and the Bear

The Parable of the Hikers and the Bear

One day as a group of Hikers made their way through the woods, their guide stopped in his tracks.  He had spotted a large bear about a hundred yards up the trail.

He cautiously turned around with his finger on his lips and told everyone to stop moving and making noise.  “Shhh”, he whispered, “There’s a large grizzly bear up on the trail ahead.  If we all remain calm and quiet he’ll go on about his business and leave us alone.”

Suddenly, one of the hikers began screaming.  “Oh my God, we’re all gonna DIE!” And she started running.  Immediately, half of the other hikers dropped their packs and joined her.

The leader looked back up the trail.  The bear had heard the hysterical woman and was already moving toward them.

“Well, that’s great.” He said, “Now we all have to run, we have no choice.”

Here is the meaning of the Parable:

The bear represents the Coronavirus Panic.

The screaming woman represents the News Media.

The hikers who started running represent those who blindly follow the News Media.

The guide and those who tried to remain quiet represent those who would stay calm in a crisis.

The News Media is 100% responsible for the Coronavirus Panic and the subsequent destruction of our economy; they should be held accountable for not keeping things in context and perspective.  They are guilty of yelling “Fire!” in a crowded building when there’s only the faintest hint of smoke.

It’s a very sad thing when people watch the News and think they’re being informed when in reality, they’re only being manipulated.
